My Story

I have been a therapist for over 12 years and have helped clients from adolescents to retirees on challenges ranging from substance abuse to trauma, anger, cultural issues and many other matters. I am an EMDR certified therapist and Consultant as well as certified in Perinatal Mental Health. I believe in the power of story - everything we experience in our lives is woven together, draws from other moments and impacts other areas. I have helped many people learn to find hope, to get “un-stuck,” to rebuild again or find balance for the first time. Every story is different and every journey is unique. I am proud to help identify, guide, support and empower my clients to create and accept their healthiest self.

I am a wife in a multicultural marriage and mother to three beautiful children. I am fluent in Spanish and am glad to conduct sessions in both English and Spanish as suits my clients. Clients of faith are welcome, and I am comfortable including Christian and other religious beliefs in therapy at the client’s request. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming and I am dedicated to equity and social justice.

My Story

I’m originally from Ontario, Canada and have lived in Arizona for over 30 years. I am blessed with a beautiful daughter, and she is the center of my world! I began working in community mental health over 20 years ago after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Arizona State University. I’ve worked in various positions with children, adolescents, and adults. I graduated from Arizona State University with a Master of Social Work degree in 2015. I have post-graduate experience in providing individual and group counseling services, crisis intervention and assessment in a correctional setting, and medical social work. I have primarily worked with adults and adolescents with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, codependency issues, and issues related to relational trauma.

Certain life experiences can lead to negative subconscious programs and core beliefs that cause us to feel fear, anxiety, shame, disempowerment, or to live in some state of dysregulation and disconnection from our true selves. Healing is a holistic process and therapy can play a vital role in that process. I believe having the “right” support and guidance can make all the difference.

I have a client-centered, trauma-informed approach to providing counseling services. I’m experienced with Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA), mindfulness, psychospiritual integration, and motivational interviewing. The more time I spend working with others, the more I believe in the resilience of human beings. I am truly passionate about partnering with others on their journey of healing.

Susan Kinkel,

Couples and Family Counseling

My Story

I have been working in the mental health field for 17 years, as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I really enjoy the field of family systems, because whether or not I am practicing individual, couples, or family therapy, I am always working within a broader framework of family systems, and dynamics. I enjoy exploring these dynamics, and how they show up for the client, in terms of presenting problems, including substance abuse issues, trauma, including religious trauma, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem struggles.

Theories that I specialize in, include Emotion Focused Therapy, Gottman, EMDR, CBT, DBT, however I take tools from many other theories, including Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Attachment Theory and am learning about psychodynamic and Object Relations Theory . I am LGBTQ+ affirming and have experience working with gender identification issues. Although, I have been in the field for over a decade, I am always wanting to learn new things to help my clients become the best versions of themselves.
